About This Event
This 400-hour professional diploma is designed for qualified yoga teachers who wish to specialise in yoga therapy for young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. Developed in collaboration with CAMHS (children and adolescents mental health services) psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, yoga therapists, and young people themselves, the training integrates ancient yogic wisdom, modern psychotherapy, and clinical psychiatry, with a strong emphasis on safe, ethical, and evidence-informed practice.
Vision Our vision is to help create a brighter, safer, more compassionate future by equipping therapists who can: Listen deeply and respond to what young people tell us. Integrate ancient yogic wisdom with evidence-based mental health care. Build preventative, empowering practices that support resilience before crisis. Work collaboratively across schools, families and health systems.
Mission The course prepares graduates to work confidently within schools, youth settings, and healthcare contexts, supporting early intervention, prevention, and recovery. Context CAMHS is overburdened and starting to look at alternative provisions for young people as they wait for psychiatrist support. We will offer that provision both in schools, as Mental Health Leads and in surgeries and elsewhere where young people congregate to guide them to self-care, finding tools to support their mental wellbeing. The yoga community is well placed to support those in mental or physical distress and has been doing so for a long time. Psychotherapists also benefit from a bottom-up approach when it comes to young people and often feel the need for more tools in their toolkit. Youth workers are also facing issues that they do not feel they are adequately resourced to deal with, which this course will address.
Outline This 400-hour professional training prepares experienced yoga teachers to work therapeutically with young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. Blending classical yogic wisdom with contemporary psychology, psychiatry, and trauma-informed practice, the course offers a rigorous yet deeply human pathway into youth-focused yoga therapy. Trainees develop practical skills alongside reflective, process-based supervision delivered at recommended case-load ratios, ensuring ethical, safe, and embodied practice. With a strong emphasis on cultural humility, diversity, and intersectional awareness, the training equips practitioners to work confidently and sensitively across schools, communities, and health settings, including CAMHS. Rather than focusing solely on what is wrong or broken, the training invites a whole-person perspective that recognises young people’s innate capacity for healing, growth, creativity, and connection.
